This article covers how to edit the Data Layer Recommendation in the Tealium Deployer tool. The Data Layer Recommendation is typically created by a Implementation Engineer during the initial phases of a new deployment or a redeployment. Once created the recommendation can be edited by those with access. The final recommendation should be reviewed and approved by both the Implementation Engineer and the Client prior to importing the variables into Tealium iQ Tag Management.
In this article:
The Data Layer Recommendation is divided into four parts, the Data Layer, Pages, Events, and Summary.
* Required fields
The examples values for utag_data
are pulled from the examples found on the Data Layer tab and are not per page. Therefore, they may not be representative of the exact data for the page, but will indicate the correct format of the data i.e. an array or string.
A Read Only Link is available from the Summary Tab to allow sharing of the Data Layer to users who do not need to make updates.
All fields in the Data Layer, Pages, and Events tabs are editable. To change any value simply click into the field to be changed and update the field to the new value. The Save button will illuminate indicating that a change has been made. Once all changes have been completed, click save. If navigating away from the page prior to saving, a prompt will appear with a notification that changes made will be lost.
Edits made to the Data Layer Recommendation are not automatically imported into Tealium iQ. This is done via a manual process. The Deployment Engineer will do the initial import of the variables.
Similar to adding items in Tealium iQ Tag Management, adding new data in Tealium Deployer is handled via wizards. Each respective section has a wizard tailored to the data needed for that item.
my_variable
is allowed but my variable
is not an allowed value. The wizards for the below sections look similar to the one pictured above for adding a Data Layer Element.
my_page
is preferred over my page
.my_event
is preferred over my_event
.The Pages and Events tabs have an Assignements table at the bottom of the page. This is where variables from the Data Layer are assigned to their associated pages and/or events. Clicking an individual cell will cycle through Required/Suggested/Blank. Clicking on a variable name will cycle all cells in the row. Clicking on an page or event name will cycle all cells in the column.
Assigning a variable to a page or event will add that variable to the examples in the Summary tab.
The Summary is updated everytime the Summary tab is clicked.
Once the variables have been assigned to the correct pages and events, Save the Data Layer recommendation.
