Create a New Segment

Use the following steps to create a new AdWords segment in AudienceStream:

  1. Within AudienceStream, new AdWords segments can be created by moving to the Create tab of the DoubleClick and AdWords connector dialog.
  2. Supply the Segment Name, Lifespan, Integration Code, and Description.
  3. If no ID is available, manually enter a random number between 1 and 1000.
The Integration Code is an ID used by user list sellers to correlate IDs on their systems.
Confirmation displays in the form of a check mark next to the Create Segment button to verify that the segment has been created.

Verify the Segment in AdWords

Use the following steps to verify the new segment in AdWords:

  1. Navigate to Campaigns > Shared Library > Audiences to verify the segment was added to the Audience List in Shared Library.
    The newly-created AudienceStream segment displays.

Associate the Remarketing List to an Ad group

The segment now exists within AdWords. Associate the Remarketing List to the Ad group you want to target. For additional information, see the AdWords Help Center.

Configure the Action in AudienceStream

There might be a time delay between the creation of the user list and when you can send visitors to it without errors.

Use the following steps to configure the target audience in AudienceStream:

  1. Within AudienceStream, select the AudienceStream audience to be targeted.
  2. Select the newly-created AdWords segment and then configure the Google ID Trait to be passed to the Google User ID field.
  3. Enter a random number between 1 and 1000 for the Data Source ID.
The ID in this step does not contain semantics for Google, it is only used as labels for reporting purposes.

Test the Connector in a Live environment

The following configurations must be accessible from a Live environment with real visitors.

  1. Begin a new Trace session within AudienceStream.
  2. Meet the criteria required to join the Audience.
  3. Within Trace, you will see the connector triggered, sending the Google ID to AdWords.

Verify Data in AdWords

Use the following steps to verify your data in AdWords:

  1. In AdWords, navigate to Campaigns > Shared Library > Audiences.
  2. Locate the Remarketing List.
  3. Verify that the list size is increasing over a 24-hour period.
In the following example, there are currently 1,500 unique site visitors in the List.
Google requires that lists be greater than 1,500 active users before a segment can begin to serve ads.
