Tag Configuration

The following configuration fields can be set:

  • Title (Required)
Enter a descriptive title to identify the Tag instance.
  • Tracking ID (Required)
Enter the tracking ID of your Google Universal Analytics (GUA) account. You may send tracking data to more than one GUA account by entering multiple tracking IDs in a comma-separated list.
  • Tracker Name (Optional)
Use this configuration if you have, or plan to have, multiple trackers. Tracker names are used when you want to send data to multiple GUA properties on a page. Each account ID or GUA property you want to send data to needs to have an associated tracker name. You can track multiple accounts from one Tag by listing the tracker names is a comma-separated list. This list should be the same length as the list you entered for Tracking IDs above.
  • Domain (Optional)
Enter your site's domain here. This configuration sets the domain of the cookie that GUA uses to identify the site visitor. Google will auto-detect this value if you leave it blank. If you want to enable tracking across shared sub-domains, omit the ‘www.’ prefix of the domain (e.g. would just be If you want to specifically track sub-domains separately, enter the entire domain address (e.g.
  • Global Object
Enter the name of GUA's Global Object used for the event queue. The default value is "ga".
  • Cross-Tracking Domains (Optional)
Enter a comma-separated list of the domains that you want to track across. In order to properly track across domains, you must make certain the Cross-domain Tracking configuration above is set to 'On'.
  • Cross-Domain Tracking (Optional)
Select 'On' to enable cross-domain tracking. This configuration sets the value for setAllowTracker. In order to properly track across domains, you must provide the list of domains in the Cross-tracking Domains field below.
  • Enhanced Ecommerce (Optional)
Select 'On' to enable GUA's Enhanced E-Commerce functionality, which is an advanced plug-in for tracking E-Commerce data.

  • Enhanced Link Attribution (Optional)
Select 'On' to enable enhanced link attribution.
  • Display Advertising Features (Optional)
Select 'On' to enable GUA to collect data about your traffic via the DoubleClick cookie in addition to data collected through your standard GUA implementation.
  • Track Screen Views (Optional)
Select 'On' to enable GUA's App/Screen tracking functionality. Enabling the functionality allows this Tag to track the content that visitors viewed using an app.
  • Anonymize IP (Optional)
Select 'On' to set the last portion of the visitor's IP address to zeros before sending it to the GUA data collection network. This allows you to comply with privacy policies.
  • Enable create before Extensions (Optional)
Select ON to enable GUA's create method before any GUA-scoped Extensions run. This setting initializes the tracking ID of your GUA account before the Extensions go into action. Note that this setting does NOT apply if the tracking ID is configured dynamically.
  • Autofill E-comm values (Optional)
Enabling this setting populates the E-commerce mappings for product name, quantity, and unit price--provided they are not already mapped in the Extension. If you do not want the E-Commerce mappings to be altered, you may turn OFF this setting.
  • Auto Send Events (Optional)
Enabling this toggle automatically sends custom events for Enhanced E-Commerce actions, in particluar, product_click, add, remove, checkout_option, and promo_click.
  • Enable Optimizely Integration (Optional)
Select ON if you want the Tag to track your Optimizely experiments.
  • Clear Vars
Clears items, usually set for the lifetime of the tracker, after each tracking request. This applies only to single page applications. The default is OFF.

Load Rules

Load Rules determine when and where to load a tag. The All Pages rule is the default load rule.

Best Practice: Analytics tags such as Google Universal Analytics are intended to be loaded on all pages, so the default All Pages load rule should be selected.

Data Mappings

Mapping is the simple process of sending data from a data source, in your data layer, to the matching destination variable of the vendor tag.

If you are tracking e-commerce data, then we recommend that you add and configure the E-Commerce Extension. Mapping to e-commerce destinations in the mapping toolbox overrides the e-commmerce extension's mappings.

For Google Analytics, additional mapping is not required for basic page tracking--the tag automatically tracks basic page data. Event tracking, campaign tracking, social interaction measurement, content groups, and custom variables are not automatically sent; you must map these manually.

For more information on mapping to Google Universal Analytics, please see the Google Universal Analytics Tag: Advanced Mapping article.
