Can I set a variable reference in a tag configuration interface?

Hey forum memebers,

I wonder if we can set a datalayer variable reference when configuring a tag in the tag configuration interface, e.g. the tracker name field in the GA tag?

Best regards

Hello David,

If I am understanding the ask correctly, yes, you can add a variable called "tracker_id" in the data layer tab in TiQ and then use that variable in the mappings of the tag instead of tag configuration area. The mapping would look something like below:

You can then populate the tracker_id variable value using one of our extensions based on the condition you would like. You can directly add the tracker_id Value in the tag configuration section in the respective field as well if you only need one GA tag on the page. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you,

I was aware of the "Data Mapping" tab solution. Just wondering if there also is a syntax to reference variables (not constants) in the "Tag Configuration" tab instead. More of a convenience thing than a real requirement.
I take it from your reply that this is not the case though?

Hi @DavidRicharz,

That is correct, our "Tag Configuration" tab allows you to put in constant values and not variables.
