I'm in the middle of cleaning up my clients Tealium account. I've followed these steps:

  1. Check which loadrules don't have any active tags connected, set them to inactive
  2. Check which loadrules are still fired based on existing URL's and events and set the other loadrules to inactive
  3. Check all tags that are old, or have loadrules that are inactive, make them inactive

What remains are a lot of extensions (including custom javascripts that fill datalayer fields) and datalayer fields. How to clean them up? If a datalayer field isn't mapped to a tag, loadrule or extension it's safe to remove it? Perhaps I do a search through the extensions for "utag_data" or "b[" or "b." to make sure the fields aren't used, and then delete the datalayer field?

What's left are the extensions. How to check if they are still used? I think I have to manually check each one of them to see if it's still in use?

Some thoughts: can I create a custom javascript extenstion that's scoped on "All Tags" that can read the name of the tag that is fired? And perhaps the datalayer field and loadrules that are triggered?

That way I can log this and see the unused ones. A bit like the "Tag Reporting" dashboard in the "My IQ" tab, but more specified for each tag/loadrule/udo.
