Update to GA tracking code to include demographics & interests in reports

Google have recently released an update to GA that allows you to track customers interests & demographics within reports (see https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2799357?hl=en&utm_id=ad). This requires a one line change to the tracking code. Is there an update due to the Tealium plugin to allow for this?

Hi Andrew, Actually, this is already available in Tealium. Simply change the "script source" drop down to "GA & Doubleclick (external)", follow the instructions to drop the GA template and then republish. Your account manager can help you with this if you're not sure what to do. It's also possible you don't have permission to modify templates, in which case you'll definitely need to check with your account manager. Craig.

Hi Craig, Thanks. I assume by drop the template i just need to delete the template before republishing the tag? I've done this for our GA on our dev account. Is there an easy way to see if it's picking up a new script source? (either via Tealium web companion or Google tag assistant?) Andrew

Yes - simply check that "dc.js" is being loaded from the "stats.g.doubleclick.net" domain. If you're using the chrome dev tools, look in the "Network" tab, and on the initiator column, you should see that it was initiated by utag.x.js (where x is the uid of your GA tag). You should also see dc.js in the "initiator" column next to all the __utm.gif files, whereas before you would have seen either ga.js or utag.x.js. I hope this description isn't too technical - please let me know if it doesn't make sense and I'll gladly post some screenshots. Craig.

Hello, I am having the same problem that Andrew had. I have selected "Google and DoubleClick (External)" in the GA tag and published it, but I can't see the "dc.js" loading. I guess it has something to do with "follow the instructions to drop the GA template and then republish", because when I select the "Google and DoubleClick (External)" script source I dont have any choice to modify the template. Any idea?

Hi Martin, When you are editing the Tag Configurations, you'll need to expand the Advanced Settings, click "Edit Templates", then when the new modal appears click the trash bin icon in the upper-right corner. Then close the modal, click "Finish", and Save/Publish. By deleting the template and Save/Publishing the configurations, you'll pull in the newest template.
