What is the best way to audit existing tags?

Hi there. My company has been using Tealium but I am new the team and am learning the ins and outs of our existing tags. I am wondering - Where is the best place to find a summary of a tag? For example, if I wanted to see all of the data we are sending to Facebook and on which pages, where is the best place to find this information?

thanks!

Hi @brittanyjat

Great question! I commend you for wanting to learn more about each tag.  If you search in the Tealium Learning Community, you may find an article that briefly discusses the implementation of a Tag, for example we have an article about event tracking for Google Analytics.  But the absolute best place to get information on a tag and the information it's sending is reading the documentation on the vendor's website. Our tag templates, in general, leverage the Vendor's library and use the normalized data you've collected to trigger the Vendor's library functions.  With regard to your example, for Facebook's pixel, this is a great place to start: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-pixel/

Other great ways to look at the data that is being sent is to check the Vendor's website to see if there is a Pixel Helper and my personal favorite, the Dev Tools Network tab.  Anytime a Tag sends data, there is a network call and within that network call is the payload.  Here is an example of the Facebook pixel sending product data via a View Content event:

Hope this helps!
