utag_main cookie session data, when are they re-initialized?

We need to do some calculation of time spent on a site, and also number of pages visited; both in the session scope. But, closing the brower tab or closing the browser does not seem to re-initiate those values when the site is re-visited in a new session. The values we use are the _ses_id and the _pn values, but they really need to start from zero for every new session. Under which conditions are these zeroed in the utag cookie?

Hi Per, A session will end if no activity is detected for 30 mins. Closing the browser alone will not end the session.
