Hi Jane, thanks for the input. We're also looking into a different approach which is instead of the global hide and show have the page let us know which are the relevant pieces on it which may be changed and to only hide/show those. Another approach would be using skeleton loaders on the page itself for heavy content such as banners which may be subject to dynamic replacement. Bottom line is that we want to play out Target with Tealium but due to the increasing number of warnings on Chrome about synchronously (through utag.sync.js) loaded scripts it is not completely unthinkable that at some point in the future Chrome might block them altogether for the sake of speed (which is already the case for low network speeds). Also funny that Adobe's Launch is actually also leaving the pre-hide task up the pages who integrate it but has no means of synchronous code injection due to its async by default nature. We'll see where we end up Cheers Björn

Hi. But this only works for the synchronous version of Adobe Target which is injected through the utag.sync.js directly and not via tag, right? Has anyone managed to make it work with the asynchronous tag? I experience the 3s white page because the required Adobe Target Content Modification extension which injects the hiding CSS in the utag.sync.js apparently always fires and if the user has opted out of - in my case - the personalization category, the tag will never fire and the hidden content will only show when the content hide timeout from the utag.sync.js happens. Does not seem like the Content Modification extension can be extended with conditions like in other extensions. Cheers Björn

Hey guys after using Adobe Target synchronously (through utag.sync.js) my company wants to jump on the asynchronous train using Adobe Experience Cloud Visitor ID as tag in conjunction with the latest Adobe Target tag (2.3.0), both bundled into the utag.js. The target library is played out using the visitor ID service is used, all good so far. Problem is: the page flickers when displaying Target A/B tests which was never the case when we synchronously played out the old at.js library via utag.sync.js and it blocked the rendering of other page parts. Of course it's an asynchrounous issue since the necessary calls to Target to retrieve information about the running A/B tests while the rest of the page continuing to load / render. Adobe is having it's own documentation on this, providing a body-hide script that needs to be implemented on the page (I placed it in the utag.sync.js for testing). This script has a built-in timeout which will show the body again after 3s of white void. https://docs.adobe.com/help/en/target/using/implement-target/client-side/at-js/manage-flicker-with-atjs.html Correct me if I am wrong but looking at the target tag the body should be shown as soon as the necessary target calls are made which never seems to happen. So we have an ugly 3s white page before anything is shown even though there are Target activities already rendered on the body, i.e. partially cut off animations as soon as the body shows. Again, I can see all target activities being loaded in the network request (filtered for "delivery?client=") and on the page so basically the library does what it should, just not show the content on time... Grateful for any ideas Björn

one thing that came to my mind: if the Target tag is dynamically modifying the utag.sync.js file with necessary CSS changes, will it still be possible to control the tag through load rules? Use case: we have certain pages that shall not fire Target. Will Tealium then serve a different looking utag.sync.js for them or will the CSS code always be there, yet not active on these pages? Hi Adrian, thanks for the response! What exactly is the "hiding code required for Target"? So if this is async, does this mean potential flickering or will it be fixed with the aforementioned "hiding code"? If the Beta Target is bundled, will it not be automatically be part of the utag.js and executed synchronously? Not sure whether I have understood the "bundling" completely yet. Do you know when this will leave the Beta phase? Cheers, Björn

This is actually quite interesting for us as well. We have the following setup: utag.sync.js, loaded synchrounously in the <head> - define Marketing Cloud Visitor ID Service and initialize it with our tracking servers (copied+pasted the whole library in the file) - load the mbox.js via <script> tag to prevent flickering <body> tag - load Adobe Analytics tag But the Marketing Cloud Visitor Service bloats the utag.sync.js file quite a bit and due to the 5 minute cached lifetime of the utag.sync.js this adds some extra request payload for returning visitors (after the cache timeout has expired). What I don't get yet is why there is a tag for the Marketing Cloud ID Service if it required to load synchronously before Target, Audience Manager, Analytics, etc. Is this somehot not a standalone tag in the classic way and instead rendered directly into the utag.js? And if used, if see this correctly that will only work with the asynchronous version of Target, correct? Cheers, Björn

Hi there, we sometimes come across issues where a tag deployed via Tealium still contains "old" information from previous utag.link calls when a manualy utag.view call is being made. E.g. we use SiteCatalyst for tracking and clicks on some UI elements do not lead away from the page and only open overlays. Interaction with these is tracked using utag.link which sets some additional properties in the SiteCatalyst library. However, there are other UI elements which being clicked on rather call utag.view which in the case of SiteCatalyst sends all information that's being stored in the library at that point which may now contain clicktracking data. Is there a way (e.g. a callback I can define) to call a custom clean up code after each utag.link/view call has been made? Like a utag.reset function that can be filled with meaningful code by every tag? As far as I can see the extension scopes all only cover the time before the utag call but not afterwards. Thanks for any input.

Hey guys, is there a global switch (e.g. in utag.cfg.ovrd?) to globally disable both utag.view and utag.link calls being dispatched to the tags on a page? Example: in our organization there are pages that use GET query strings or hash values that may contain sensitive user information that must not be sent to any thirdparty tag. The functionality cannot be easily changed. As some tags tend to be rather greedy when collecting data of the pages they're fired on, we would like to make sure that as soon as the query or hash string contains any blacklisted parameters, no tags shall be loaded at all or alternatively tags shall be kept from firing when calling utag.link or utag.view. Hi, is there a way to compare the values of two data layer sources inside of a load rule? I mean something like something super simple like varA != varB As far as I can see the entered value in the text field will always be interpreted as a string and does not offer any auto completion for existing data layer mappings. Hey guys, I was just trying to write a little extension that shall display a message at the top of our web page when the environment of the utag.js gets changed in the Tealium Tools Webcompanion extension (Chrome). My initial approach was to add a property to the data layer, using the cookie name the Webcompanion writes. Settings are Source utag_env_mycompany_main Type First Party Cookie Alias some alias The problem is that when I set the environment to let's say "dev", Tealium does not seem to properly generate/populate this datalayer value. Instead the propertey name seems to get the actual value appended to it, leaving the value unset. cp.utag_env_mycompany_main_//tags.tiqcdn.com/utag/mycompany/main/dev/utag.js : "undefined" Any idea, what's wrong here?
